Qatar Condemns Attacks on Civilian Infrastructure, Israel Claims to Have Destroyed Iran's Largest Oil Refinery
Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, has issued a strong condemnation of the targeting of civilian infrastructure in the increasingly heated conflict in the Middle East. This statement was made during a phone call with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, via social media, revealed that the two leaders discussed the ongoing escalation and its broad impact on regional stability. During the conversation, Al-Thani also expressed his concerns over the continued Iranian attacks affecting Qatar and other neighbouring countries that have declared their intent to stay out of the war.
“His Highness also emphasised that targeting civilian infrastructure and people’s resources is unacceptable behaviour and condemned by any party and under any circumstances,” read the official statement from Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that his forces have successfully destroyed the largest petrochemical plant in Iran. This move is described as part of a strategy to cut off Iran’s military funding streams.
“We are systematically crippling the IRGC’s (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) money machine,” read a post on the official X account of the Israeli Prime Minister.
A similar statement was issued by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The IDF stated that it had attacked two of Iran’s largest petrochemical complexes. The strikes are claimed to have rendered more than 85% of Iran’s petrochemical export capacity inoperable.
The IDF specifically highlighted the attack on the Asaluyeh site. According to their claims, the location is not merely a civilian facility but is used as a centre for producing “key components for the Iranian regime’s missile industry”.
Amid this exchange of attacks, international diplomatic involvement continues. United States President Donald Trump confirmed in his latest briefing that he had held direct talks with Netanyahu last Sunday to discuss the latest situation on the ground.
To date, the escalation in the region continues to show a worrying upward trend for the security of global energy infrastructure and the safety of civilians in surrounding countries. (BBC/Z-2)
