Qatar and Iraq Discuss US-Iran Peace MoU and Hormuz Shipping

Doha (ANTARA) - Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani held talks with visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Falih Al-Zaidi, during which they called for the implementation of a United States-Iran peace memorandum of understanding (MoU). Both parties urged all sides to commit to dialogue and implement the understanding based on the MoU, according to a statement released by the Emiri Diwan, the emir’s administrative office. They called for guaranteeing freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and maintaining regional security and stability, the statement said. They also reviewed bilateral relations and explored ways to expand cooperation in various sectors, the statement added. The US and Iran signed the MoU in mid-June, which included provisions that both parties were expected to hold negotiations within 60 days to reach a final agreement. However, tensions have recently flared up again as both sides exchanged waves of attacks in the Middle East.
