Qantas' Asian wing to get first jet
SINGAPORE: Qantas Airways' Asian discount offshoot will take
delivery of its first aircraft, an Airbus A320, by the end of
October, a company spokesman said on Tuesday.
"The fleet will comprise four A320s when the airline begins
flying and the first aircraft is scheduled for delivery at the
end of October," Con Korfiatis, chief operating officer of the
carrier, said in a statement received here.
Korfiatis said the carrier, which has yet to be named
officially, had applied for a license with Singapore's aviation
authorities but did not say when it expected to get official
clearance.
The Singapore-based discount airline is 49.9 percent owned by
the Australian flag carrier while Singapore's state investment
vehicle Temasek Holdings owns 19 percent. --AFP
