Q2-2026 Economy Not Yet Able to Grow 6%, Purbaya Refuses to Implement New Taxes
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa predicts that Indonesia’s economic growth rate will not yet reach 6% in the second quarter of 2026, even though it managed to grow 5.61% in the first quarter of 2026, the fastest since the third quarter of 2022.
“I think it won’t be 6% yet, but close to it,” said Purbaya at his office in Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026).
Nevertheless, Purbaya assured that the government will continue to push for faster economic growth than in the first quarter of 2026 for the second quarter period.
Therefore, he promised an injection of economic stimuli, plus guarantees of no additional new tax policies to maintain purchasing power and the business climate, for example, such as income tax on online businesses, up to toll road taxes.
“Let’s say if two consecutive quarters are above 6%, we will consider other taxes,” said Purbaya.
That said, Purbaya assessed that with the economy already moving to grow faster in the first quarter of 2026, it is already a sign that the public’s economy is starting to improve, especially related to purchasing power.
“This means that people’s purchasing power is also improving because of various government policies and also there are holidays and all sorts of things,” he explained.
