Q1 Growth at 5.61 Per Cent, Purbaya to Push Economy to 6 Per Cent by End of 2026
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa emphasised that Indonesia’s economic growth, which has reached 5.61 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, will continue to be pushed towards 6 per cent by the end of this year. He stated that, based on the results achieved so far, the government’s strategies are appropriate and accurate, beginning to yield results. “The APBN target (for economic growth) is 5.4 per cent, but we will push it towards 6 per cent by the end of the year,” Purbaya said in the Kebon Sirih area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 6 May 2026. “Looking at the current results, it seems the strategies are bearing fruit. It seems the strategies are quite fitting and accurate,” he added. His confidence that national economic growth can reach 6 per cent by the end of 2026 is also supported by several new programmes that the government will implement. He believes that if the acceleration efforts and steps can truly succeed through these programmes, then future economic growth will certainly proceed more rapidly. “Later, if the other new programmes start running and their impact begins to show in the economy, the (national economy) should grow faster,” Purbaya said. According to him, with the national economic growth achievement of 5.61 per cent in the first quarter of 2026, this indicates that Indonesia has actually succeeded in escaping the curse or trap of the 5 per cent economic growth trend. “We have escaped the curse of (economic) growth (around) 5 per cent. It’s two quarters now, 5.39 per cent (in Q4-2025) and 5.61 per cent (in Q1-2026). So we hope that going forward it will be faster, faster, faster. We will maintain the existing growth momentum,” he stated.
