Q1 Corn Planting Campaign: Kapolri Vows to Deliver Food Self-Sufficiency Target
Jakarta, VIVA – Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo attended the nationwide simultaneous corn-planting campaign for the first quarter of 2026 in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. This activity represents the commitment of the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to fulfil the food self-sufficiency target set by President Prabowo Subianto. ‘This is, of course, a programme and commitment by Polri to ensure that we can truly complete what has been targeted by the President,’ Sigit told reporters on Saturday, 7 March 2026. Sigit stated that to realise food self-sufficiency, particularly for corn, Polri continues to collaborate with farmer groups, community elements and across all related ministries/institutions. ‘Alhamdulillah today we are carrying out the corn planting mass campaign simultaneously for the first half of the year; this iteration is a continuation of our target to plant one million hectares,’ Sigit said. On the one hand, Sigit noted, this activity is also part of efforts to respond to and anticipate the dynamics of global conflicts that have recently been heating up. ‘Because the President has continually stressed that we must achieve food self-sufficiency and energy self-sufficiency, and this is of course part of our efforts to create self-sufficiency or resilience in food security, particularly for corn,’ he said. Meanwhile, Sigit emphasised that food self-sufficiency will also contribute to the Makan Bergizi Gratis (MBG) programme, which also requires livestock feed for broilers and laying hens, and therefore this must continue to be promoted,’ added Sigit. He also welcomed the joint agreement with Himbara to help provide credit (KUR) to the Gabungan Kelompok Tani (Gapoktan). ‘Thus, our hope is that with KUR loans from Himbara banks, farmers will be more motivated. Because farmers have capital to use from planting, care with fertilisers and pesticides, and later after harvest,’ Sigit explained.
