Python Crossing Road in Front of Gunungkidul Regent's Official Residence Causes Three-Motorcycle Collision

A python measuring 2.7 metres in length startled several motorists in front of the Gunungkidul Regent’s official residence in Wonosari, causing a three-motorcycle collision. The incident occurred when the snake was spotted crossing the road from west to east at around 7.45 a.m. local time. According to Handoko, head of the Gunungkidul Fire and Rescue Service (Damkarmat), a gardener working at the regent’s residence, Marsia, 60, saw the snake slithering across the road. Motorists were caught off guard and braked suddenly, triggering the chain-reaction crash. No riders were injured, but the motorcycles suffered minor damage from the impact. The snake did not go under the wheels. Marsia immediately contacted the fire service, and personnel arrived within minutes to evacuate the python from the gate of the regent’s official residence. Handoko confirmed the snake was a non-venomous python and was placed in a large plastic box before being taken to the Damkarmat post, where a reptile enthusiast community typically collects such animals.
