The Forum of Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Chairmen (PWNU) across Indonesia has requested that the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU) hold its congress no later than early August 2026.

“If the congress is not held by August 2026, the PWNU together with the PCNU will declare a vote of no confidence in the PBNU,” said Abdul Ghaffar Rozin, or Gus Rozin, Chairman of PWNU Central Java, when visiting the PBNU office in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/4/2026), quoted from Antara.

Gus Rozin stated that the regional chairmen visited the PBNU office as a form of consolidation among regional leaders in response to the organisation’s internal dynamics.

According to him, there is deep concern following the reconciliation agreement, with no significant progress to resolve communication deadlocks among PBNU elites.

This aspiration was conveyed and received virtually by PBNU Rais Aam Miftachul Akhyar and directly by PBNU General Chairman Yahya Cholil Staquf in his office.

The forum assesses that delays in holding the congress could disrupt organisational consolidation and hinder NU’s focus on its strategic role at the national and community levels.

According to Gus Rozin, there are three points in the statement of position presented by the Forum of PWNU Chairmen across Indonesia to the PBNU.

The second point requests that the PBNU consistently follow up on the decisions of the Syuriyah and Tanfidziyah Daily Meeting on 18 March 2026.

This includes forming committees for the munas/konbes and congress, as well as accelerating the issuance and completion of decision letters (SK).

The third point requests that the Steering Committee determine congress participants, including PWNU, PCNU, and PCINU, no later than one month before the event.

The Forum of PWNU Chairmen also emphasised that accelerating the congress is a crucial step to maintain leadership legitimacy and organisational solidarity.

According to them, prolonged uncertainty could erode structural trust at the regional and branch levels.

“This is not merely an organisational agenda, but concerns the future of the jam’iyah and NU’s strategic role for the nation,” said Gus Rozin.

“This forum is purely an initiative of the PWNU chairmen, not specially coordinated. Even their trip to Jakarta was at their own expense, although some came from Aceh and the Highlands of Papua,” he said.
