PWNU DKI Offers to Host the 35th Muktamar, Here is the Reason
The Jakarta Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU DKI) has proposed that the 35th Muktamar of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) be held in Jakarta. The proposal comes as the official location and timing for the highest forum of Indonesia’s largest Islamic organisation have yet to be determined. PWNU DKI Chairman KH Samsul Ma’arif stated that committees for the Munas-Konbes and Muktamar are already being formed by the Nahdlatul Ulama Central Board (PBNU). “As far as I know, the committees are already in place. Later, I will divide the tasks for the Munas-Konbes committee. Because the Munas-Konbes must precede the Muktamar, but it seems the agreement is that the Munas-Konbes committee will also serve as the Muktamar committee,” said Kiai Samsul to Republika.co.id on Wednesday (13/5/2026). He explained that the date and venue for the 35th NU Muktamar have not yet been decided. However, PWNU DKI has submitted a request letter for Jakarta to host the event. “The place and time have not been set yet. But PWNU DKI has already submitted a request letter for the Muktamar to be held in Jakarta because the timing is tight. Jakarta, in my opinion, offers better accommodation and transportation that will make it easier for everyone,” he said. According to him, accessibility is a key consideration given that Muktamar participants will come from all regions of Indonesia. He also mentioned the possibility of holding the event at a major pondok pesantren complex in Jakarta. Meanwhile, Central Java PWNU Chairman KH Abdul Ghaffar Rozin, or Gus Rozin, emphasised that the decision on the venue and timing of the Muktamar is entirely in the hands of PBNU. “The place and time are fully entrusted to PBNU, whether through daily meetings or plenary sessions. The important thing is that we have framed the timing; we request 1-5 August,” said Gus Rozin when contacted separately.
