Ahead of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress on 27–31 August 2026, the Central Java Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama (PWNU) held a joint prayer and continued to promote a declaration for an honest, clean, open, democratic and civilised congress.

Media Indonesia monitoring on Tuesday (25/8) ahead of the 35th NU Congress at Bahrul Ulum Tambakberas Islamic Boarding School in Jombang, East Java, on 27–31 August 2026, showed that all PWNU Central Java officials were preparing to dispatch delegates.

In addition to holding a commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday and a joint prayer for the delegates’ departure at the PWNU Central Java office on Jalan Dr Cipto in Semarang on Monday (24/8), the board also held a declaration for the 35th NU Congress at Darussalam Sempong Islamic Boarding School in Semarang Regency.

“Facing the upcoming 35th NU Congress, we have taken a stance, namely to continue promoting the declaration of Honest, Clean, Open and Civilised,” said Rais Syuriyah of PWNU Central Java KH Ubaidullah Shodaqoh.

The declaration statement read at the opening of the Bahtsul Masail NU Central Java event at Darussalam Islamic Boarding School, KH Ubaidullah Shodaqoh continued, was solely to follow up on the hopes of the Masyayikh, who are also mostly Nahdliyin members, particularly in Central Java.

“We, the entire Central Java Regional Board of Nahdlatul Ulama, have declared our stance before the Congress,” he added.

Ubaidullah Shodaqoh outlined six stances of PWNU Central Java for the 35th NU Congress, namely fully supporting the holding of a Nahdlatul Ulama Congress that is honest, clean, open, democratic and civilised in accordance with the decisions of the Masyayikh.

Furthermore, Ubaidullah Shodaqoh said, the board upholds the dignity of Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi as an instrument of honour and policy of the ulama, firmly rejects all forms of money politics in every Congress process, and also rejects all forms of fraud, manipulation and misuse of organisational processes.

“We reject all actions that could tarnish the dignity, honour and respect of the ulama, and we ask the President as head of government to remind and prohibit state apparatus from exerting pressure, intervention and conditioning in the Congress, whether in the name of the Palace/President or the government,” said KH Ubaidullah Shodaqoh.
