Jakarta (ANTARA) - Polda Metro Jaya is processing the termination of an investigation into an alleged insult to the journalism profession after the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) officially withdrew its police report against Hotman Paris Hutapea.

“It is true, PWI has officially withdrawn the report against HPH,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a statement on Wednesday.

He explained that the withdrawal was submitted via a letter requesting the termination of the police report, dated 28 July 2026, addressed to the Director of Cyber Crime Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya. “The request letter was officially submitted by the Head of the Legal Defence and Development Division of PWI Central, Anrico Pasaribu, who is the reporting party in the case,” Budi stated.

He added that the investigative team will summon the reporting party to confirm the withdrawal request letter, ensuring its validity and exploring the reasons behind the decision. “Once the confirmation stage is complete, the police will hold a case conference as the official legal basis to terminate the investigation process for this case,” Budi said.

“This evening, we have withdrawn the report against Mr Hotman Paris Hutapea. PWI has reached a reconciliation,” said Anrico Pasaribu in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/7). He stated that the peace agreement was reached during a meeting between PWI Central Chairperson Akhmad Munir and Hotman Paris on Tuesday morning, mediated by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

According to him, Hotman Paris offered a direct apology during the mediation meeting. PWI considered the apology to be sincere, leading the organisation to resolve the matter through a restorative justice mechanism. “PWI feels it can accept the apology sincerely. And legally, we are withdrawing the report in accordance with the legal mechanism of restorative justice,” Anrico stated.
