PWI Withdraws Police Report Against Hotman Paris Following Mediation by Dasco
The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Central Board will withdraw its police report against lawyer Hotman Paris at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, following a mediation facilitated by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. The move is an effort to prioritise dispute resolution in the interest of national unity. PWI Central Board Chairman Akhmad Munir stated in Jakarta on Tuesday that the decision to withdraw the report was made after Hotman Paris followed up on his apology to the PWI and Indonesian press members regarding a statement previously deemed to demean the dignity of journalists. Munir explained that the PWI had forgiven the statement from the outset, although the organisation still pursued legal channels by reporting Hotman to the Metro Jaya Police. During the meeting mediated by Dasco, Hotman Paris reiterated his desire for the matter to be resolved amicably. Munir added that the PWI views the good faith shown by Hotman Paris and the spirit of reconciliation built during the mediation as the basis for ending the legal process. He noted that the primary goal of the mediation facilitated by Dasco is to strengthen Indonesian unity, and the PWI appreciates the effort as a resolution path that emphasises dialogue and togetherness.
