PWI Withdraws Police Report Against Hotman Paris

Metro Jaya Regional Police will process the termination of the investigation into the report filed by the Indonesian Journalists’ Association (PWI) against lawyer Hotman Paris.

The move comes after PWI withdrew its report against Hotman through a letter dated 28 July 2026, entitled ‘Request for Withdrawal of Police Report’, addressed to the Director of Cyber Crime at Metro Jaya Regional Police.

The letter was submitted by the Head of the Legal Defence and Guidance Division of PWI Central, Anrico Pasaribu, as the complainant in the case.

“It is true, PWI has officially withdrawn the report against HPH,” said the Head of Public Relations at Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, in a written statement on Wednesday (29 July).

As a follow-up, Budi said investigators would summon the complainant to confirm the withdrawal request, including verifying the authenticity of the withdrawal and asking for the reasons behind it.

“After that, investigators will conduct a case review as the basis for terminating the investigation,” he said.

Previously, PWI had reported Hotman Paris to Metro Jaya Regional Police over alleged insults against journalists. The report was registered under number LP/B/5291/VII/2026/SPKT/POLDA METRO JAYA.

In its report, PWI accused Hotman of alleged defamation as defined in Article 242 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.

However, PWI subsequently decided to withdraw the report. The withdrawal follows a meeting between the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, PWI Chairman Akhmad Munir, and Hotman.

“So we are following up on the outcome of that meeting. This evening we have withdrawn the report against Mr Hotman Paris Hutapea,” said Anrico Pasaribu, Head of PWI’s Legal Defence and Guidance Division, at Metro Jaya Regional Police on Tuesday evening (28 July).
