PWI Website Set to Consolidate Across 38 Regional Branches
The Central Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) is continuing to strengthen its organisational transformation and consolidation within the digital space. Following the launch of the PWI Channel podcast, PWI is now preparing to consolidate 3lag 38 regional PWI portals across Indonesia, which are scheduled for a grand launch on 1 October 2026, coinciding with Pancasila Sanctity Day.
Preparations for the website consolidation were discussed during a meeting at the PWI Central Office, located on the 4th floor of the Press Council Building, Jakarta, on Tuesday (22/9/2026). The meeting was led by the General Chairman of PWI Central, Akhmad Munir, accompanied by the Secretary General, Marthen Selamet Susanto, the Head of Multimedia and IT, Hilman Hidayat, the Head of Broadcasting, Auri Jaya, other PWI Central officials, and dozens of regional PWI administrators participating via Zoom.
The meeting addressed the readiness of the PWI website network, the activation of portals in all regions, content management and production, and the strengthening of news synergy between PWI Central and regional branches ahead of the simultaneous launch on 1 October 2026.
General Chairman Akhmad Munir stated that the preparations for the PWI website network have entered the final stages. All 38 regional portals have been prepared and will subsequently be activated and populated with regular content leading up to the official launch.
“To use an analogy, the car has left the showroom; we just need to warm up the engine and we will be ready to run on 1 October 2026, exactly on Pancasila Sanctity Day,” said Akhmad Munir.
He noted that the existence of these 38 regional portals is part of an effort to build a consolidated PWI information ecosystem, from the central level to the regions. Through this network, organisational activities, journalistic information, journalist competency programmes, and various regional issues can be connected within a single PWI digital ecosystem.
“This website does not belong solely to PWI Central, but serves as a shared home for PWI throughout Indonesia. With 38 consolidated regional portals, we want information and PWI activities from Aceh to Papua to be connected, mutually strengthening each other, and gaining wider publication space,” said Akhmad Munir.
Ahead of the grand launch, all regional PWI branches have been requested to immediately activate their respective portals and begin content production. Each regional branch is also required to appoint a Person in Charge (PIC) responsible for portal management. Each region is encouraged to establish a production rhythm by uploading news daily.
“Therefore, I am asking all regional PWS to activate their portals, appoint a PIC, and build a content production rhythm starting now. Do not wait until 1 October. During the grand launch, all engines must be running and the 38 regional portals must be moving together,” he emphasised.
To strengthen content synergy between PWI Central and regional branches, portal managers can coordinate with the PWI Central team. This synergy is expected to allow important regional content to achieve wider distribution through the PWI network, while information from the centre can also be distributed effectively to the regions.
Akhmad Munir emphasised that PWI’s digital transformation does not stop at building website infrastructure. The strengthening of the digital network must go hand-in-hand with improving content quality and journalist professionalism.
“Digital transformation for PWI is not merely about presenting a website. What is more important is how we use this technology to strengthen journalist professionalism, expand the distribution of quality information, and build collaboration between PWI Central and regional branches,” he said.
The consolidation of the 38 regional portals continues PWI Central’s steps in strengthening digital-based communication channels. Previously, PWI Central launched the PWI Channel podcast as a channel to present discussions regarding the press world, public communication, information technology developments, and various other strategic issues.
The inaugural content of the PWI Channel featured the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, Angga Raka Prabowo, as a guest speaker.
The presence of the PWI Channel and the 38 regional portal network is expected to mutually reinforce one another. The regional portals will serve as spaces for the distribution of information and news from across Indonesia, while the PWI Channel expands PWI’s communication formats through audio-visual content and discussions with various interlocutors.
“We have already started the PWI Channel, and now we are consolidating the 38 regional portals. Moving forward, all these channels must be interconnected so that PWI possesses a strong, active digital ecosystem capable of following the evolution of how society consumes information,” said Munir.
Through the 38 regional portals consolidated with PWI Central and reinforced by the PWI Channel, PWI aims to build an organisational communication network capable of connecting press activities from various regions of Indonesia within a single digital ecosystem.
