PWI Chairman: Make PWI a Great House of Goodness
Manado (ANTARA) - Akhmad Munir, Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Central Board, called on journalists affiliated with the professional organisation to make PWI a great house of goodness. “Let us make the PWI house a great home for the good of society and the nation, especially the people of North Sulawesi,” said Akhmad Munir in his speech at the inauguration of the PWI North Sulawesi board for the 2026-2031 period in Manado on Wednesday. This goodness, he said, is so that the public receives good information, accurate information, and beneficial information. “Let us all together support government programmes for the success and welfare of the people of North Sulawesi,” he urged. Akhmad Munir assessed that North Sulawesi Governor (Ret.) Major General Yulius Selvanus is fully concerned with the world of the press. “That is the important capital, the basic capital for us to mutually safeguard so that North Sulawesi continues to rise and advance for the progress and welfare of the people,” he added. The press, said Akhmad Munir, is a strategic partner for complementing, correcting, and monitoring local government policies so they run in the right place, straight, and beneficial to the public. “At the same time, PWI monitors how to maintain the integrity and quality of the press in North Sulawesi,” he hoped. According to Akhmad Munir, the current press life is very open, very free, and anyone can become a journalist, editor, and so on. “This is where our challenge is in facing media disruption that changes the order of how we become professional journalists, journalists who firmly adhere to the code of journalistic ethics, and journalists who always uphold their honour and integrity,” said Akhmad Munir. He hoped that the large PWI organisation could become a pillar in upholding democracy, maintaining the honour of the organisation, and safeguarding professional integrity. “We hope that seniors continue to provide advice to our friends and younger siblings to work professionally, to be good journalists,” he urged. The inauguration of the PWI North Sulawesi board was also attended by North Sulawesi Governor Yulius Selvanus, representatives of the regional leadership coordination forum, district and city government officials, and other invitees.
