Putty takes Master silver

JAKARTA (JP): Putty Armein wrapped up Indonesia's remarkable run in the first Asian Student Bowling Championships with a silver medal in the girls' Master on Friday.

Altogether, Indonesia collected two golds, two silvers and a bronze to finish third in the medal standings behind host Singapore and China.

Playing with consistency, Putty was an apparent winner in the most prestigious event when she finished first with a total pinfall of 2,135 after 10 rounds going into the final. Her average pinfall of 215.3 outshined the boys' best average of 214.4.

Putty's celebration was proven to be short-lived, however, after she lost to home favorite Valerie Theo 352-411 in the final. The bronze went to Kelly Bancroft of New Zealand.

Singapore completed a clean sweep with the gold in the boys' Master through Dominic Lim Zhong. China's Liu Hao took the silver and another Singaporean, Daniel Lim, won the bronze. Indonesia's Ryan Lalisang and Martien Budiman failed to qualify for the final. (amd)
