Putri Gus Dur and Former KPK Leaders Meet Sultan HB X to Discuss Law Enforcement and Asset Forfeiture Bill

A number of prominent figures met with Sri Sultan HB X at the Yogyakarta Palace on Thursday, 23 July 2026. The meeting, which lasted from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, was attended by the wife and daughter of former President Abdurrahman Wahid, Nyai Sinta Nuriah Abdurrahman Wahid and Alissa Wahid. Also present were former Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin and former Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commissioner Laode M. Syarif.

“We discussed a number of things with Sultan HB X, related to several current national issues that need to be addressed,” Alissa Wahid said after the meeting on Thursday, 23 July 2026.

The National Coordinator of the Gusdurian Network revealed that one of the highlights was the issue of current law enforcement.

“Like the handling of corruption cases, it should not just be about catching the perpetrators. But it must be resolved thoroughly and completely, not on a case-by-case basis,” she said.

She assessed that law enforcement handling is still sectoral, the condition is considered vulnerable and requires commitment from the government through its law enforcement apparatus.

This is because a crisis of trust is occurring at the grassroots level. “The public is questioning whether law enforcement is carried out purely because of violations that occurred or if there is another agenda,” she said.

Meanwhile, former KPK commissioner Laode M. Syarif also highlighted the issue of law enforcement.

Laode revealed that there are conditions to make the public trust law enforcement. “The law enforcement officers must uphold good integrity values, starting from the police, prosecutors, KPK, to judges,” he said.

According to him, all these parties must truly demonstrate honesty and exemplary conduct. Laode assessed that the current conditions have made the public less trusting of law enforcement because there are many festering problems within every institution.

Meanwhile, academic from the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Amin Abdullah, revealed that the meeting also discussed the Asset Forfeiture Bill which has yet to be passed.

“We believe this Asset Forfeiture Bill needs to be a priority scale,” he said.

Amin said this is important because the deep-rooted nature of corruption in Indonesia now requires a more optimal stage of handling.

“If the bill is completed and passed, God willing, everything else will follow,” he said.

Amin stated that the government needs to get used to providing public accountability for every policy it makes.

“Do not let the perception be that they are only accountable to the DPR, but also to the public,” he said.
