Putri Cempo Landfill in Solo Caught in Fire
The Putri Cempo landfill in Solo, Central Java, was struck by a fire on Wednesday evening.
The Head of Mojosongo Sub-district, Katarina Kartika Panca Chris Daryani, received reports of the fire at approximately 18:00 WIB.
The fire originated in Block B and spread towards the northern side, specifically at the border with Karanganyar Regency.
“I received a call from the Head of RW 30, informing me that Putri Cempo was on fire. I happened to be on the road and had not yet returned home when I was notified,” she said.
She stated that the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. However, she noted that such incidents occur almost every year, though previous fires had not reached this scale.
Regarding the impact of the fire, she confirmed that residents are currently safe. Nevertheless, she has coordinated with the Surakarta City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to establish a public kitchen.
“Preparations from the sub-district level are underway. The BPBD has contacted us regarding the establishment of a public kitchen in the sub-district office. Additionally, medical teams and volunteers are already on standby,” she added.
Firefighters were deployed to tackle the blaze from two sides, namely the north and the west. Four fire engines were positioned on the northern side, while two were deployed to the west. Furthermore, several pieces of heavy equipment, including bulldozers and excavators, were brought into the Putri Cempo Waste-to-Energy Plant (PLTSa).
