Putri Cempo Landfill Fire Unextinguished, Solo Mayor Declares Emergency Response

The fire affecting the Putri Cempo landfill area in Jebres has remained unextinguished since Wednesday (2/9) night. Consequently, the Solo City Government has declared a natural disaster emergency response status for the next 14 days.

According to reports from Thursday (3/9/2026), observations at the site at 21:36 WIB showed firefighters still struggling to suppress the blaze. Flames were still visible across blocks B, C, and D of the Putri Cempo landfill.

The Mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi, stated that the decision to declare emergency status was made after a thorough evaluation of field studies, risk factors, and the progress of the handling efforts. The administration also held a coordination meeting with relevant departments.

“Therefore, today, 3 September 2026, based on the results of our evaluation of field studies, facts, and risks, we have established a natural disaster emergency response for 14 days, effective from today,” Respati announced during a coordination meeting at the Putri Cempo landfill on Thursday (3/9/2026) night.

Respati detailed that in this emergency handling operation, the Solo City Government is deploying full strength in synergy with various agencies. He expressed deep appreciation to the ranks of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Fire Department, district and sub-district officials, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP), the Putri Cempo landfill management, as well as the Central Java Regional Police, Surakarta City Police, and the Military Territorial Command (Korem), all of whom have been battling the fire since the first night.

Following the declaration of the emergency response, the firefighting process will involve water bombing operations supported by the Central Java Regional Police.

“We will attempt to use water bombing tomorrow morning once the weather clears. For this, we are receiving assistance from the Central Java Regional Police,” he added.
