Putin Says Russia and US Share Responsibility for Global Security

Istanbul (ANTARA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin stated on Saturday that Russia and the United States (US), as the two nations with the largest nuclear arsenals in the world, bear a shared responsibility in maintaining global security.

According to the Kremlin, in a message sent to US President Donald Trump to commemorate the 250th anniversary of US Independence Day, Putin noted that the signing of the Declaration of Independence marked not only the birth of the US but also served as a significant milestone in world history.

Putin stated that Russia “provided unconditional support to the North American colonists in their struggle to achieve freedom from British rule.”

The Russian leader also reminded that Moscow and Washington were allies during two world wars.

“We were allies in two world wars. Together, we liberated humanity from the horrors of Nazism, and subsequently played a vital role in laying the foundations of the modern world order,” said Putin.

“Currently, Russia and the United States, as the two nations with the largest nuclear powers, bear a special responsibility to ensure security and stability at a global level,” he continued.

Putin expressed his confidence that a “constructive, equal, and mutually beneficial” relationship between Moscow and Washington would benefit the interests of both nations as well as the wider international community.
