Putin: Russia has no aggressive intentions towards Europe
Istanbul (ANTARA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that Russia has no aggressive intentions towards Europe and is prepared to restore relations and cooperate with neighbouring countries in the region.
Speaking during a meeting of the Military-Industrial Commission on Friday, Putin accused several European leaders of preparing for war with Russia by using the Ukraine conflict and Russian threats as justifications for their policies.
“I want to emphasise once again: Russia has no aggressive intentions towards Europe or European countries. There is absolutely no reason for it. We are ready to cooperate and restore relations with neighbouring European countries,” he said.
Putin also criticised European nations conducting military exercises in the Baltic Sea. According to him, these exercises include preparations for the seizure of civilian vessels.
“They continue to speak about defending international law and upholding its norms, but at the same time, they are preparing to seize civilian ships,” Putin remarked.
He stated that Moscow would respond if necessary. “Let us live in peace. If not, we will also be forced to respond,” he said.
Putin also outlined the priorities of Russia’s new State Armament Programme, which he said will focus on modernising the armed forces and the defence industry amidst evolving global threats.
He described the strengthening of Russia’s nuclear triad as an “absolute priority,” as it is deemed to guarantee sovereignty and help maintain the global balance of power.
Putin noted that 92 per cent of Russia’s Strategic Missile Forces have been equipped with modern weaponry.
Furthermore, he identified the strengthening of air defences, the expansion of unmanned and robotic systems, the development of precision strike weapons, and the completion of Russia’s orbital satellite constellation as key priorities.
According to Putin, the satellite network will enhance space-based reconnaissance, navigation, communication, and broadband internet capabilities, while enabling real-time command and control of troops and weaponry.
