Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin has offered shipbuilding cooperation to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. This occurred during a meeting between the two heads of state in Vladivostok, Russia, on Thursday (3/9/2026).

“President Putin also offered advanced vessels over 102 metres in length for the direct processing of our fish to improve their quality,” stated the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board, Rosan Roeslani, as quoted in a statement on Friday (4/9/2026).

According to Rosan, the government will follow up on this offer. President Prabowo plans to dispatch a team to study the ship technology and assess its potential utility for the national fisheries sector.

In addition to shipbuilding, the meeting between Prabowo and Putin discussed opportunities for cooperation in several strategic sectors, including fertilisers, trade, and investment. Rosan noted that one concrete follow-up to this strengthened cooperation is the exploration of an investment by Pupuk Indonesia to develop a urea fertiliser plant in Vladivostok, through PT Pupuk Indonesia. This has already been formalised in a memorandum of understanding signed by both parties.

“In essence, we, along with the President Director of Pupuk Indonesia, have just signed a joint study to assess the potential for Pupuk Indonesia to invest in urea fertiliser in Vladivostok,” said Rosan.

Furthermore, the planned ratification of the free trade agreement between Indonesia and Eurasia is expected to be a key factor in expanding economic relations between the two parties. Notably, trade between Indonesia and Russia recorded a growth of over 12% in the previous year.

“The momentum is very good and very appropriate, allowing for the expansion of trade, cooperation, partnership, and investment between both nations,” he added.
