Putin Invites Prabowo to Russia in May and July

Russian President Vladimir Putin has invited President Prabowo Subianto to return to Russia in May and July 2026. Foreign Minister Sugiono revealed Putin’s invitation during a press statement regarding Prabowo’s state visit to Moscow, Russia, on Monday, 13 April 2026.

Sugiono stated that plans surrounding the strengthening of Russia-Indonesia economic relations up to people-to-people ties will be pursued by both countries in the future.

“President Putin also extended an invitation for President Prabowo to attend an event in Kazan to be held in May and a major industrial exhibition to be conducted in July,” Sugiono said, quoted from a video statement uploaded to the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel on Tuesday, 14 April 2026.

Sugiono noted that Russia is one of Indonesia’s strategic partners, particularly in the economic sector. According to this Gerindra Party politician, the invitation is intended to bolster relations between Indonesia and the Land of the Red Bear. “It is hoped that this can become increasingly intensive, bringing benefits to both parties,” he added.

President Prabowo met with President Putin at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday, 13 April 2026. During the meeting, Prabowo conveyed his appreciation to Putin for Russia’s support in various strategic needs for Indonesia.

“In several matters that are very important to Indonesia, President Putin supports and provides assistance to Indonesia’s requirements,” Prabowo told Putin, quoted from the Presidential Secretariat’s live YouTube broadcast.

Meanwhile, President Putin stated that Indonesia and Russia have always prioritised key sectors for cooperation. Both sides, Putin remarked, have frequently discussed opportunities to develop collaboration in strategic fields, including energy, space, agriculture, industrial production, pharmaceuticals, education, and trade.

After conducting an intensive meeting with President Putin in Moscow, President Prabowo continued his state visit to Paris, France. Prabowo arrived in Paris on Monday night, 13 April 2026, at 23:50 local time.
