Putin invites Prabowo to return to Russia in May and July 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has directly invited President Prabowo Subianto to return to Russia to attend industrial exhibition events in May and July 2026, one of which will be held in Kazan, Tatarstan.

Foreign Minister Sugiono, in a video recording from Moscow, Russia, broadcast by the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat, explained that the invitation was given by President Putin to President Prabowo during their meeting at the Kremlin Palace on Monday (13/4).

“President Putin also extended an invitation for President Prabowo to attend the event in Kazan, which will be held in May, and also the major industrial exhibition that will take place in July,” said Foreign Minister Sugiono in the official broadcast of the Indonesian Presidential Secretariat, confirmed in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The invitation is part of efforts to strengthen relations between the two countries, which are expected to become increasingly intensive and bring benefits to both parties.

Following the bilateral meeting, the two state leaders also held a private meeting in a separate room at the Kremlin Palace complex.

Sugiono explained that the private meeting took place in a lunch format.

“(The two state leaders, ed.) also discussed several matters related to geopolitical developments that are a concern for both countries,” said Sugiono.

Sugiono then emphasised that Russia is one of Indonesia’s strategic partners and an important trading partner for Indonesia.

“Several future plans are also being made around strengthening economic relations between the two countries and people-to-people relations, both from Russia and Indonesia,” said Foreign Minister Sugiono.

Regarding the invitation from President Putin, the major event scheduled to be held in Kazan in May includes the International Economic Forum Russia-Islamic World: KazanForum at Kazan Expo. The event is organised by the Russian Government in cooperation with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and is scheduled to take place from 12-17 May 2026.

Meanwhile, for the industrial exhibition to be held in Russia in July 2026, one of them is the International Innovation Industry Expo (INNOPROM) 2026, scheduled to be held in Ekaterinburg from 6-9 July.
