Putin invites Prabowo to return to Russia for May, July key events
Indonesian Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono said that the invitation was conveyed during bilateral diplomatic engagements at the Grand Kremlin Palace in Moscow on Monday (April 13).
“President Putin also invited President Prabowo to attend an event scheduled for May in Kazan, as well as a major industry exhibition in July,” Sugiono stated in a video message received from the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He most likely referred to the International Economic Forum RussiaIslamic World: KazanForum, which will take place in conjunction with Kazan Expo in Kazan City, Tatarstan, from May 12 to 17, and the International Innovation Industry Expo 2026 in Ekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk, from July 6 to 9.
The minister accompanied President Prabowo to the Kremlin reception, alongside Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
At the palace, Prabowo and Putin co-chaired a two-hour bilateral meeting attended by their delegations before proceeding to a one-on-one discussion during a state luncheon lasting about five hours.
Sugiono highlighted that the two leaders “talked about a number of matters of mutual concern, particularly recent geopolitical developments.”
He added that Indonesia regards Russia as a strategic partner in various sectors, including economics and trade.
On that note, the minister emphasized that both governments had explored more avenues to strengthen economic ties while deepening people-to-people connections.
Earlier, Secretary Wijaya shared details of the bilateral summit, noting that Indonesia and Russia agreed to sustain a long-term partnership in energy and mineral resources to safeguard energy security and support downstreaming processes.
He underscored that both countries are also aligned on deepening cooperation in education, research, technology, agriculture, and investment.
