Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his great pleasure at meeting Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Kremlin Palace in Moscow, Russia, on Monday (13/4/2026) local time.

Accompanying Prabowo were Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Foreign Minister Sugiono, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. Putin was accompanied by, among others, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

“I want to convey that I am very, very pleased that communication is taking place regularly and has substantial meaning. Some time ago, we made a declaration regarding the strategic partnership between our two countries. And I am very pleased that we are taking steps that give meaning to the relations between our two countries,” Putin said.

According to him, that strategic character emerges primarily in the fields of economy and trade. Last year, bilateral trade rose by 12.5%.

“At the beginning of this year, we have witnessed a slight slowdown in bilateral trade, but we have various ways to increase it. We attach great importance to the joint intergovernmental commission and we hope that in today’s meeting, Your Excellency, we will manage to find various solutions to continue enhancing the partnership between our two countries,” Putin stated.

According to him, Russia’s partners and counterparts always prioritise the key areas of cooperation between the two countries.

“And we have often discussed opportunities to develop cooperation in those fields, including cooperation in the energy sector, in the space sector, also in agriculture, in industry, and in pharmaceuticals,” Putin said.

The two countries, he continued, are also developing cooperation in the humanities, including in education. Putin revealed that the ministries of both countries will work closely together.

“Indonesia has become a full member of BRICS. This opens new opportunities to develop our cooperation. The same can be said about cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union. My respected and esteemed friend, once again thank you, welcome,” he explained.
