Putin conveys Eid al-Fitr greetings, highlights the role of Muslims in building Russia

In a written statement issued via the Russian Embassy in Jakarta, monitored on Saturday, President Putin recognised Eid al-Fitr as a moment for the Muslim community to “uphold values of generosity and compassion, and to recall the eternal values of Islam”. “I wish to emphasise that Muslims in Russia cherish the historical and spiritual traditions inherited from their ancestors and widely celebrate this holiday within their communities and family settings,” stated the Russian President. Muslims in Russia consistently organise various charitable, cultural, educational, and children’s events on a large scale during this Ramadan month, which Putin described as a commendable tradition. He noted that Muslim organisations have made constructive contributions to strengthening family institutions, nurturing the younger generation, and fostering constructive dialogue with state institutions and society. “I extend special words of appreciation to adherents of Islam who, alongside their fellow compatriots, have joined in defending the freedom and independence of the Fatherland,” said the Russian President. He also praised Muslims who consistently provide support to families and their loved ones, particularly to the nation’s heroes. Putin expressed hopes that Muslims in Russia will always enjoy health, success, and all the best. Meanwhile, the Muslim community in Russia is known to have celebrated Eid al-Fitr 1447 H, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan, on 20 March 2026.
