Putin Congratulates President Prabowo Subianto on Indonesia's 81st Independence Day
Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his congratulations on the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia to President Prabowo Subianto on Monday (17/8/2026). In his message, Putin stressed that strengthening bilateral relations between Moscow and Jakarta is key to stability in the Asia-Pacific region.
Putin stated that the productive interaction that has been established reflects the excellent development of relations between the two countries. He expressed confidence that this cooperation will continue to provide tangible benefits for the peoples of the two friendly nations.
“I am confident that this is fully in line with the interests of the peoples of the two friendly countries and contributes to strengthening security and stability in the Asia-Pacific region and throughout the world,” read the official message from the Kremlin, as quoted from Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
In addition to conveying Independence Day greetings, the Russian side also expressed sympathy over the disaster that struck Indonesia. A day earlier, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Jakarta conveyed its deepest condolences over the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara Province.
The earthquake was reported to have occurred on Saturday morning (15/8). Through its official Instagram account on Sunday (16/8), the Russian Embassy expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and hoped that the situation in the affected areas would recover soon.
“We extend our condolences to the families and relatives of the deceased. We hope that the lives of the people in the areas affected by this natural disaster can soon return to normal,” the Russian Embassy’s official statement read.
The momentum of Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day serves to affirm the diplomatic closeness between the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and President Vladimir Putin, amid evolving global geopolitical dynamics.
