Putin Calls Iranian President, Urges De-escalation with US-Israel

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The conflict between Iran and the United States and Israel was the primary topic of discussion.

Putin called for the conflict between Iran and the US-Israel alliance to subside promptly. He expressed hope that the nations involved would pursue a path of political negotiation to resolve the conflict.

“The Russian President reaffirmed his principled position supporting rapid de-escalation of the conflict and its resolution through political means,” the Kremlin stated in its official statement regarding the telephone conversation, according to AFP on Tuesday, 11 March 2026.

The Kremlin stated that the conversation was cordial. Russia also indicated that it had sent assistance to Iran.

“Pezeshkian thanked Russia for its support, particularly for the humanitarian assistance provided to Iran,” the Kremlin added.

The war between Iran and the US and Israel broke out on Saturday, 28 February. Combined US and Israeli forces attacked Tehran.

Iran responded to the attack by striking several US military bases across various Middle Eastern countries. The conflict between the three nations has also resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, from an attack by the US and Israel.

Nearly two weeks into the conflict, there are no signs that the war will end. Both the US and Israel, as well as Iran, continue to launch fresh attacks against each other’s military installations.
