Putin and Trump Discuss Ukraine and Iran in Phone Call

Moscow (ANTARA) - Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with United States President Donald Trump on Sunday (14 June), according to presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. Ushakov said the two discussed a potential agreement between the US and Iran, plans for a visit by a US presidential envoy to Moscow, and Kiev’s attacks on civilian facilities in Russia. Trump stated he is ready to use his influence with European partners and Kiev to achieve peace, including during various meetings at the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) Summit. According to Ushakov, both leaders agreed that Kiev’s latest strikes targeting civilian infrastructure in Russian territory have hampered conflict resolution efforts. On the Iran issue, the two leaders exchanged views on a draft memorandum of understanding (MoU) currently being negotiated by the US and Iran. Trump said the agreement is nearly complete and expressed hope that the results of the talks could be announced as early as 14 June. Putin welcomed the development, which was seen as progress in efforts to de-escalate a conflict that risks triggering turmoil in the wider region and globally.
