Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Puteri Indonesia Foundation and the 2026 Puteri Indonesia representatives have declared their support for child protection in digital spaces, expressing their readiness to campaign for the importance of child safety on the internet.

During a meeting between six Puteri Indonesia 2026 representatives and the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, Puteri Indonesia 2026 Agnes Aditya Rahajeng noted that the ‘PP Tunas’ child protection regulations address the widespread concerns regarding various threats children face online.

“Minors are vulnerable to the dangers of pornography, sexual abuse, and bullying on social media. While it must be acknowledged that social media is a very powerful tool for seeking information, this is precisely where supervision and protection are necessary,” Agnes stated during the meeting held in Jakarta on Thursday.

“I want to participate in socialising the PP Tunas regulations to schools. Furthermore, I will also amplify the issue of child protection in international forums to turn this into a global movement,” said Gisella, who will represent Indonesia in the Miss Charm pageant in Vietnam.

In the dialogue, Minister Meutya Hafid explained the current challenges children face in digital spaces. According to her, threats arise not only from age-inappropriate content but also from the risks of contact with strangers and addiction to digital platforms.

“Child protection in the digital space must consider the risk profiles faced by children, ranging from contact risks and content risks to addiction risks. Therefore, PP Tunas regulates proportional protection measures according to the risk level of the platform,” Meutya remarked.

She cited the gaming platform Roblox as an example, noting that it has made specific adjustments for Indonesia by disabling contact features for users under the age of 16.

The urgency of child protection is increasing alongside high internet penetration in Indonesia. Currently, the number of internet users in Indonesia has reached approximately 229 million, with an average daily usage of over seven hours.

Meutya emphasised that child protection in digital spaces has become a global concern and is increasingly relevant to bring to various international forums.

“Child protection is a universal issue. When Indonesia speaks about the digital future, then child safety must be an essential part of the global conversation,” she said.

In addition to Agnes Aditya Rahajeng and Gisella Agnes Silalahi, support for child protection in digital spaces was also expressed by other Puteri Indonesia 2026 representatives present at the meeting, including Puteri Indonesia Environment 2026 and Miss International Indonesia 2026 Victoria Titisari Koesasi Putri; Puteri Indonesia Tourism 2026 and Miss Cosmo Indonesia 2026 Karina Moudy Widodo; Puteri Indonesia Technology and Innovation 2026 Glorya Stevany Yame Nayoan; and Puteri Indonesia Intelligence II and Influencer 2026 Athalla Hartiana Putri Hardian.
