Puteh's generator case moved to Aceh

JAKARTA: The investigation of the alleged markup by Aceh Governor Abdullah Puteh in the purchase of a power generator will be moved to Aceh to speed up the process, police say.

National Police deputy chief of detectives Insp. Gen. Dadang Garnida said the shift would make it easier for police to question all witnesses and the suspect because the graft, which caused the state to lose some Rp 30 billion (US$3.3 million), took place in the troubled province.

"Puteh and other witnesses and suspects are in Aceh, so we think we can resolve the case quickly if we move our investigation to Aceh. This is not a move to avoid public attention, as you may all be guessing," said Dadang, who added that Puteh was still a witness in the case. --JP
