Pusri Supports Sustainable Environmental Management and Food Security
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - PT Pusri Palembang, a member of the PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero) holding, has ensured the availability of fertiliser in West Sumatra is secure and distribution continues smoothly during the transition of distribution zones. This step also forms part of Pusri Palembang’s commitment to supporting food security.
As is known, from 1 April 2026, West Sumatra will officially become Pusri’s subsidised urea fertiliser distribution zone, in line with the assignment from PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero). During this transition period, the distribution process remains optimal by utilising existing stocks from the previous zone to maintain continuity of supply to farmers.
The availability of fertiliser is one of Pusri’s preparations to ensure farmers’ fertiliser needs are met, particularly ahead of the second planting season. In addition to subsidised fertiliser, Pusri is also continuing to promote optimisation of distribution through retail schemes and the Agrosolution programme, which has begun to be implemented in West Sumatra.
VP of Corporate Communications & Administration at Pusri, Rustam Effendi, stated that Pusri is fully committed to ensuring the availability and smooth distribution of fertiliser in West Sumatra, especially during the zone transition period.
“Since the assignment takes effect from 1 April 2026, we are ensuring the distribution process runs well and does not disrupt the fulfilment of farmers’ needs in the field. The current fertiliser stock position in West Sumatra is safe and sufficient to support planting season needs,” said Rustam in an official statement, quoted on Friday (24/4/2026).
Urea fertiliser plays an important role in increasing agricultural productivity, particularly in supporting the vegetative growth of plants through its high nitrogen content. With proper and balanced use, urea fertiliser can help farmers optimise their harvest yields.
Through strong synergy, Pusri is committed to maintaining smooth fertiliser distribution and supporting national agricultural sector productivity, particularly in West Sumatra.
It is noted that up to 10 April 2026, the realisation of subsidised urea fertiliser distribution in West Sumatra was recorded at 27,215 tonnes, or about 85% of the total allocation of 31,944 tonnes up to April. Meanwhile, the fertiliser stock position in West Sumatra as of 10 April 2026 is at a safe level, with availability of subsidised urea fertiliser at 11,701 tonnes.
In addition to ensuring availability, Pusri has consistently maintained environmental management performance while promoting sustainable business practices, thus earning the PROPER Green award from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry/Environmental Control Agency (KLHK/BPLH) for the 2024-2025 period.
The PROPER Green award received by Pusri reflects the successful implementation of Beyond Compliance. Pusri has demonstrated excellent environmental performance above the required standards. This reflects Pusri’s commitment to environmental management through energy efficiency, emission reduction, waste management, and community empowerment in the areas around its operational sites.
