Pusan to apply for 14th Asiad

SEOUL (Reuter): South Korea plans to apply to host the 14th
Asian Games in 2002 in Pusan, its second largest city, officials
said yesterday.

A Pusan city official said the city would submit the
application to the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) in January.

"Our city will be able to finish all preparations, including
facilities, by 2000," said the official.

He said the OCA, the governing body of the Asian Games based
in Kuwait, would send a fact-finding team to check the city's
preparations for the games after receiving the application. Pusan
is expected to host the 2nd East Asian Games in 1997.
