Pusan out to save Asian Games

SEOUL (AFP): The Olympic Council of Asia has given the South
Korean city of Pusan 30 days to meet new conditions to save its
hosting of the 2002 Asian Games, officials said Sunday.

The OCA set an Oct. 15 deadline for Pusan to meet the
financial conditions of a new accord made with the organizers on
the sidelines of the Olympics in Sydney on Saturday night.

The OCA had threatened to move Asia's biggest sporting event
after accusing Pusan of breaching the host city contract. New
Delhi and Kuala Lumpur were ready to stand in to act as emergency
hosts.

"With this new agreement, the OCA looks forward to improved
cooperation and sincerity in all of our dealings and we are sure
that relations will improve," said the OCA president Sheikh Ahmad
Al Fahd Al Sabah.
