Purwakarta Residents Queue at Bank Indonesia's Mobile Money-Exchange Service

Purwakarta residents queued at Bank Indonesia’s (BI) Mobile Cash Service vans in the yard of Masjid Baing Yusup to exchange old banknotes for new ones ahead of Lebaran. People lined up to swap notes in denominations from Rp1,000 up to Rp50,000. They had previously booked exchanges online at pintar.bi.go.id. Registration requires only a KTP, an email address, and a phone number. The maximum exchange per registered KTP is Rp5,300,000. Residents said the new notes would be distributed to relatives for Lebaran. ‘Registration was online two weeks ago, but I could only get a slot today,’ said Danti, on Wednesday (4 March). Bank Indonesia has allocated Rp1.5 billion for exchanges in Purwakarta, with a quota of 300 people.
