Purwakarta Regent Yet to Decide on Legal Aid Body's Summons Over Controversial Song

Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein has yet to decide on his stance regarding an open summons from the West Java Legal Aid Institute (JBH) concerning his Sundanese-language song titled ‘Lalaki Langit Lalanang Bejat’. ‘I will consult with my legal counsel first,’ Binzein said when asked about the JBH summons in Purwakarta on Thursday. He stated that consultation with his lawyer was necessary to determine his response to the open summons. ‘For words deemed controversial, I apologise. But regarding the summons, because it pertains to legal matters, I must consult with my lawyer first,’ he said. According to him, the song’s lyrics are actually a poem arranged into a song, written several years ago as a personal reflection. ‘That poem and song were created in 2020, telling a story about myself. It originated from contemplation of my own behaviour, which I considered naughty at the time,’ he said. ‘I apologise if any party feels uncomfortable with the song’s lyrics. However, I did not intend to offend any particular party. It is purely a story about myself,’ he added. Meanwhile, the West Java Legal Aid Institute issued an open summons to Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein over the Sundanese-language song ‘Lalaki Langit Lalanang Bejat’, which is considered degrading to women. The open summons, numbered 023/SOM/JBH/VII/2026 and dated 1 July 2026, was signed by JBH Chairman Riyan Bintana. Through the open summons, Riyan stated that irrefutable legal facts had been found indicating the song contains diction, narrative, and substance that are misogynistic, degrading to human existential dignity, and vulgarly demean the honour and dignity of women. It was noted that Binzein’s song is strongly suspected of fulfilling elements of non-physical electronic-based sexual violence, involving the transmission of sexually charged messages that demean or harass the sexual honour of a specific gender group through information technology means.
