Purwakarta Regent Tightens Crowd Permits Following Assault on Wedding Organiser
The Purwakarta Regency Government in West Java has limited and tightened permitting for gatherings at event venues. This policy was enacted following the death of a wedding party organiser who was assaulted by thugs.
“Today, I issued a circular to limit and tighten permitting as well as supervision of crowd permits at event venues,” said Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein in Purwakarta, as reported by Antara on Monday (6/4/2026).
He stated that the policy was issued as a form of government responsibility to ensure public safety is maintained during event organisation.
“I extend my condolences for the death of the resident in Campaka. Do not hesitate; fully entrust the handling of the assault case at the event in Purwakarta to the police. I am confident the police will handle it in accordance with applicable laws and regulations,” he said.
On Saturday (4/4), Dadang (57), a resident of Kertamukti Village, Campaka Subdistrict, Purwakarta Regency, died after being beaten by a group of youths suspected to be intoxicated in the midst of his child’s wedding party.
At the time of the incident, Dadang was holding his child’s wedding party at home. To entertain the guests, the party was enlivened by a solo organ performance.
At 14:50 WIB, while the organ entertainment was ongoing, a group of people suspected to be intoxicated arrived at the event location.
They demanded money from the organ player to buy additional drinks. The organ organiser gave Rp 100,000, but the individuals refused, saying it was insufficient.
The group demanded Rp 500,000, but it was rejected, and this refusal allegedly triggered the perpetrators’ anger. The initially conducive situation turned tense within minutes.
The guests panicked, some running away, while others tried to intervene. However, the commotion escalated into brutal violence.
In the midst of the chaos, Dadang, who was managing the event, became the target of the rage. He was struck with a hard object to the head and lost consciousness at the scene.
The actions of the group of intoxicated youths were recorded in a video that circulated widely in the Purwakarta area.
According to the regent, the circular regarding restrictions, tightening of permits, and supervision of crowd permits at event venues aims to maintain public security and order, while ensuring every gathering activity has clear oversight from authorities and the local government.
He urged the public to comply with regulations for every event, maintain a conducive environment, and coordinate with security apparatus before holding events involving crowds.
“The Purwakarta Regency Government hopes that with this policy, all community activities can proceed safely, orderly, and without causing conflicts or incidents that harm residents,” he said.
