Purwakarta Customs Seize 469,000 Illegal Cigarettes in Two Consecutive Operations
Purwakarta - Purwakarta Customs thwarted an attempt to transport 469,000 illegal cigarettes at Kalijati Toll Exit and KM 77 of the Cikopo-Palimanan Toll Road (Cipali) on Sunday, 17 May 2026.
The operation at Kalijati Toll Exit began after intelligence from Purwakarta Customs about illegal cigarette transportation from Pamekasan to Bekasi. The team monitored and tailed a minibus matching the intelligence along the Cipali toll road towards Jakarta.
They stopped and inspected the minibus at Kalijati Toll Exit in Subang Regency. The vehicle was found carrying 198,000 illegal cigarettes without excise stamps, valued at Rp294.03 million with a potential state revenue loss of Rp147.71 million.
Meanwhile, the operation at KM 77 of the Cipali Toll Road also started from intelligence about illegal cigarettes transported via minibus from Pamekasan to Jakarta. After patrolling the Jakarta-bound Cipali toll road, the team located the target vehicle matching the intelligence.
They tailed and conducted the operation at KM 77 of the Cipali Toll Road in Purwakarta Regency. During inspection, 271,000 illegal cigarettes without excise stamps were found, valued at Rp402.44 million with potential state revenue loss of Rp202.17 million.
Purwakarta Customs issued Enforcement Notices (SBP) for both operations. All seized items, including 469,000 illegal cigarettes and two minibuses, were secured at the Purwakarta Customs office for further investigation and processing.
Purwakarta Customs Head Abdul Rasyid stated that the agency is intensifying operations against illegal cigarettes in its jurisdiction. He said illegal cigarette circulation not only causes revenue loss but also creates unfair competition for legitimate businesses.
‘We will continue to strengthen surveillance and enforcement to eradicate illegal cigarette distribution,’ he said.
