PT Pertamina (Persero) has opened strategic collaboration opportunities with a number of global energy companies to drive increased national oil and gas production. The move was taken at the Indonesia-US Business Summit held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington D.C.

Pertamina signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Halliburton for oilfield recovery development, which is expected to optimise production from mature fields. The agreement was signed by Pertamina Chief Executive Officer Simon Aloysius Mantiri and Halliburton Indonesia President Director Ankush Balla, and was directly witnessed by President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday (18 February).

The MoU was part of eleven investment memoranda of understanding conducted by the Indonesian government with business actors at the summit. The collaboration focuses not only on short-term production increases but also on technology transfer and the implementation of global best practices in the oil and gas industry.

Mantiri affirmed that the collaboration with Halliburton is a strategic step to strengthen national energy resilience through optimising domestic oil and gas production. Oilfield recovery is expected to help Pertamina maximise national oil production, particularly at domestic oil and gas fields that have experienced natural production decline.

The increase in oil and gas lifting has become a priority for Pertamina alongside the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, SKK Migas, and Production Sharing Contract Contractors (KKKS). The collaboration is designed to accelerate the implementation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology and more efficient and sustainable drilling solutions.

Beyond technology transfer, the partnership aims to improve human resource capabilities and establish global-standard operational practices within Pertamina’s upstream operations.
