Pursuing Food Self-Sufficiency, Tasikmalaya Regency Partners with SMI to Improve 32 Strategic Road Sections
TASIKMALAYA, KOMPAS.com – The acceleration of regional infrastructure development no longer relies solely on the limitations of conventional fiscal capacity. The Tasikmalaya Regency Government has taken a progressive step by partnering with PT Sarana Multi Infrastruktur (Persero) or SMI to enhance the quality of 32 strategic road sections in its area. Through financing support worth Rp 230.25 billion, this project is projected to serve as a significant economic driver for the people of eastern Priangan. The presence of local legislative and executive officials at the event underscores the urgency of the project as a regional development priority. This financing is a tangible implementation of the SINERGI Programme established by the Directorate General of Financial Balance (DJPK). This collaborative initiative aims to promote alternative creative financing schemes for regions seeking to catch up on infrastructure without destructively burdening their financial balance sheets. This financing is expected to accelerate improvements in road infrastructure quality in Tasikmalaya Regency, which will not only strengthen regional connectivity but also drive local economic growth, particularly in the agriculture, trade, and MSME sectors. “We reiterate that regional loans are an instrument for accelerating development, not a burden for local government,” said Faaris, as quoted by Kompas.com on Saturday (2/5/2026). Technically, the enhancement of these 32 road sections is more than just physical repairs. Based on feasibility studies, the project has substantial economic value with a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp 30 billion and a Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR) of 1.13. These figures indicate that the real benefits to the community far exceed the costs incurred. The completion of this project is expected to correct vehicle operating costs and significantly reduce travel times. Tasikmalaya Regent Cecep Nurul Yakin views this support as a commitment to meeting the fundamental needs of residents.
