Pursuing 100% Electrification by 2029, ESDM Partners with Industry and Accelerates Village Electricity

The government targets a national electrification ratio of 100% by 2029. Currently, the electrification ratio stands at around 98%. Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung stated that acceleration requires synergy between the government and industry. Focus is directed towards expanding electricity access, energy efficiency, and the use of domestic products. “We will start from 2025 until 2029 targeting electrification for all regions around 100%. So there will be no more dark areas. We will be free from darkness,” he said in a written statement on Thursday (16/4/2026). The visit is part of efforts to prepare the national industry in supporting the electricity programme. The government continues to accelerate the village electricity programme. This programme is key to equitable energy access. In 2025, the programme will cover around 1,516 villages. Overall, around 10,000 villages are targeted to gain electricity access by 2029. This programme drives the need for large-scale electricity infrastructure. This condition opens opportunities for domestic industries to participate in providing equipment and technology. One focus is the use of rooftop solar power plants in the industrial sector. The government is also preparing regulations related to electrical installation safety. These rules cover the use of safety devices such as Residual Current Breaker with Overcurrent. The government encourages the need for these devices to be met by domestic industries. “If this can be produced here, we will not give leeway to import from outside,” he said.
