Purbaya's Response on Health Issues and Rumours of Dismissal

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has denied reports claiming he was seriously hospitalised. He emphasised that he only underwent a health check-up and that his condition is now fully normal. Purbaya stated that he did indeed visit the hospital, but did not receive extended treatment. He also confirmed that the visit was limited to a routine examination. In response to rumours about his health, including reports of blood sugar levels as high as 600, the state treasurer did not provide further details, only assuring that his condition is now under control. “It’s safe now. 118 is normal again. It’s fine, I think everything is quite alright, right?” he said. Additionally, he assured that his overall physical condition is good, including the back pain that had been rumoured. “My back is normal now,” he said. Purbaya responded casually to various public rumours about his health, including claims that he was unable to carry out activities. “There’s a lot of gossip, huh? They say I can’t get out of bed anymore, that I’m about to be sacked,” he said with a laugh. Previously, Purbaya had disclosed his health condition. He admitted to experiencing back pain while attending a media briefing on Friday (24/4/2026). After the event, he appeared to have difficulty standing from his chair. He held onto a colleague and was assisted by an aide while walking. When asked about his condition, Purbaya said the discomfort had not fully subsided. He suspected it was triggered by fatigue from a packed work schedule. “Back pain is normal, probably just tiredness,” Purbaya said during the media briefing at BPPK in South Jakarta on Friday (24/4/2026).
