Purbaya's Forecast: Tax Revenue to Grow 22% in May 2026
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that tax revenue in May 2026 is expected to grow by 22% year-on-year.
This growth is significantly higher than the previously announced figure for April 2026, which was 16.1% year-on-year, with a value of Rp 646.3 trillion, or 27.4% of the target of Rp 2.357.7 trillion.
“Our tax revenue is better than last year. It’s growing by 22%,” said Purbaya in the DPR area, Jakarta, quoted on Thursday (4/6/2026).
The increase in tax revenue will lead to a primary balance surplus in May 2026, even higher than the surplus at the end of April 2026, which was Rp 28 trillion.
“In May, the primary surplus will also be positive again, even higher than in April,” said Purbaya.
With these figures, he emphasised that, over the past five months or up to May 2026, the state budget deficit will only be around 0.7% of gross domestic product (GDP), slightly higher than the 0.64% GDP deficit recorded in April 2026, which was equivalent to Rp 164.4 trillion.
“So, if there are issues about the government’s policies being inconsistent or its fiscal management being reckless, that’s not the case. We are doing better. I will show you in the State Budget. I will show you the figures one by one,” said Purbaya.
