Innovation stagnation poses a significant challenge for private companies in Indonesia, hindering global competitiveness and national economic growth. Public concern is rising due to the lack of significant breakthroughs from large corporations, while foreign startups continue to dominate the local market. This creates a substantial gap between potential and actual innovation in the country’s private sector. Data from Bernas Investigative Team Research indicates serious stagnation in the adoption of AI and data technologies among companies. Only about 15% of companies reported significant AI implementation in 2023, far below expectations for the largest economy in Southeast Asia.
