Purbaya: World Bank Has Apologised!

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa revealed that the World Bank has apologised to him for providing a poor economic projection for Indonesia. As is known, in the East Asia and Pacific Economic Update report for April 2026 released by the World Bank on Wednesday (9/4/2026), they projected that Indonesia’s economy would only grow by 4.7% in 2026, far lower than the government’s target of 5.4%. “Some say our growth is only 4.7%, that’s the World Bank, right? When we went there, they apologised,” said Purbaya at the Juanda I Building of the Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). “They apologised because they published the forecast before discussing it with their boss there, so China got angry, we didn’t get angry, I just said your forecast is too low,” Purbaya added. As is known, last week Purbaya attended the IMF-World Bank meeting in the United States (US). He emphasised that in a special meeting with the World Bank, he did not request that the poor projection be revised. “They asked how about it, should we revise? No need, I will prove that you are wrong. He laughed, and I also prayed for them,” said Purbaya.
