JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the implementation of a work-from-home (WFH) policy, or working from home for one day per week, could save up to 20 percent of fuel oil (BBM) consumption per day.

“There is a very rough calculation, not done by me. Roughly for a full day, one-fifth, about 20 percent,” he said when met at the Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) office of the Ministry of Finance, Jakarta, on Saturday (21/3/2026).

The government plans to implement the WFH policy applicable to civil servants (ASN) as well as private sector workers.

The implementation of this work flexibility is a response to disruptions in oil supplies and high global oil prices due to the war in the Middle East.

Purbaya explained that WFH will only be applied for one day per week, considering work effectiveness.

According to him, not all jobs can be performed optimally if WFH is applied for too long.

“WFH, however, sometimes there are things that cannot be done well from home,” he said.

However, the policy is assured to start applying after Eid.

“WFH will be detailed, but after Eid we will implement it,” he revealed.

He added that this policy will apply to ASN and be encouraged for the private sector, with the exception that public services must continue to operate normally.

“(Applicable to) ASN as well as encouragement for the private sector. But not for public services. (Coordination later) there will be the Ministry of Manpower and the Minister of Home Affairs,” said Airlangga.
