Purbaya: We Will Drive the Rupiah to Rp15,000 per US$!

Yogyakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa says the impact of the policy implementing the new Devisa Hasil Ekspor Sumber Daya Alam (DHE SDA) rule will strengthen the exchange rate. As is known, the government will implement the new DHE SDA rule which takes effect from 1 June 2026. He said the public should not make a fuss about the weakness of the exchange rate. He also urged dollar holders to dispose of their dollars promptly. ‘I told currency traders to quickly get rid of their dollars. We will push the rupiah to Rp 15,000 per US dollar,’ Purbaya told the Jogja Financial Festival at the Jogja Expo Centre (JEC) on Friday (21 May 2026). ‘If the President says during Purbaya that the economy is doing well, the smile should continue!’ he added to cheers from the audience. As is known, under the new DHE SDA rule set out in Government Regulation (PP) No. 21 of 2026, exporters’ 100% of US dollars must be parked in state-owned banks (Himbara) and must retain 30% of their DHE for three months for the oil and gas sector and 100% for non-oil and gas for 12 months in a dedicated account. Purbaya regards the government’s decision to implement this DHE rule as a good and appropriate step. He believes foreign exchange inflows will return significantly in June.
