Purbaya Urges SPPG to Empower MSMEs and Local Food Suppliers to Strengthen MBG Supply Chain

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has stressed that the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) must participate in efforts to strengthen the supply chain of the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme. This is to be achieved by involving and empowering community production centres, Village-Owned Enterprises (BUMDes), MSMEs, and local food suppliers.

Speaking during the 25th Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the Fifth Session Period in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, Purbaya stated that the government encourages SPPG to empower these local entities. "So that they can directly absorb foodstuffs from farmers, livestock breeders, and fishermen around the SPPG locations," he said.

He explained that this approach aims to improve the supply chain while simultaneously increasing the logistical capacity of the MBG programme. "As well as ensuring that foodstuffs can be absorbed directly from producers around the SPPG locations," Purbaya added.

The minister also outlined several challenges faced during the initial phase of the programme019s implementation, particularly regarding supply chain readiness and food distribution routes. "This includes logistical capacity, especially in the frontier, outermost, and disadvantaged (3T) regions," he noted.

Purbaya has previously established a special team to oversee the programme019s budget utilisation, involving ranks from the Directorate General of Treasury and the Directorate General of State Assets, with a presence extending to all regency and city levels. Evaluations of the programme019s implementation and budget absorption in the field will be conducted periodically every two months. Purbaya affirmed that the government will not tolerate any SPPG found to be problematic in executing the programme.
