Purbaya Urges Public Not to Panic over State Budget: There's Plenty of Money, No Need to Fear!
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that Indonesia’s state budget funds are still plentiful. He stated that he received instructions from President Prabowo Subianto to convey this to the public.
“Earlier, the President also told me to deliver the message that the money is sufficient, there’s plenty of funds, so you don’t need to worry,” said Purbaya during a press conference at the Presidential Palace Complex in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
On the other hand, he discussed Indonesia’s economic growth with President Prabowo. The former LPS chief stated that economic growth has experienced significant acceleration, reaching 5.61 per cent in the first quarter of 2026.
“The first thing from today’s economic meeting figures, 5.61 per cent. We discussed with the President that we have indeed been able to reverse the economic direction. Previously it was 5.39 per cent, and before that 5 per cent or slightly below 5 per cent. So our economy is accelerating,” said Purbaya.
It is known that Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto confirmed that Indonesia’s economic growth of 5.61 per cent in the first quarter of 2026 is the highest among several G20 countries that have released similar data.
“Our growth of 5.61 per cent is above several G20 countries,” said Airlangga during a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs in Jakarta on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.
Airlangga acknowledged that the comparison was made against countries that have announced their economic performance for the first quarter of 2026.
“Among the countries that have released data, including China, Singapore, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, the United States, we are the highest,” he stated.
Airlangga added that India, as one of the G20 countries, has not yet released its economic growth data, so it is not included in the comparison.
According to him, this achievement shows that Indonesia’s economy continues to grow well amid global dynamics that are still seeking a new balance.
Airlangga mentioned that the growth was driven by various policies prepared by the government, particularly to maintain consumption momentum during Eid al-Fitr.
